Sunday. The only day of the week which i have to myself. Dont get me mistaken, my plates JUST SEEM TO LOVE invading my everyday schedule. After bumming around and downloading senseless music, i came across a documentary on Mies’ Work, his background and history. It was brief and enticing, i sat through the whole thing surprisingly and i enjoyed every minute of it. Honestly, i learned more about him from this 70minute(+/-) documentary than our 3 hour history of architecture session about MVDR (sorry sir jim!) or maybe i was just that ignorant during my freshman year :@)
Anyways, since Mies was the son of a mason/craftsman, he understood the nature and the aesthetic of different materials and with this hands on knowledge, he was able to create and carve the path for modern 20th century architects and architecture. Mind you! All those extensively glazed skyscraper buildings you see in sex in the city, was inspired by Mies’ style and his vision of how buildings should look like. Without him, we would have skyscrapers with thick concrete shoulders and claustrophobic interiors. With that being said, I seriously have to actually start going around warehouses or distributor to get swotches because currently, i have a very shallow understanding of materials. Thanks to the internet, i see all these materials in a 2d view! LOL.

My favourite structure by mvdr would have to be, (of course) the farnsworth house. I love how it has its own personality and it controls what furniture goes in it and the people who live in it as well. The typical home would let its furniture do all the defining, but the FH just makes it a point that everything has to harmonize with it. I wouldnt want to live in it though, im a very unorganized person with a chaotic life, leaving clutter in that house wouldnt feel right. Plus the transparency would just give you a bad name to all the people who pass by.
So, in respect to his famous quote “less is more” i’ll stop here. Have a nice week guys. I know i will, cos its my birthday week!

Day well spent. K and I rarely have the time to hang around in places other than in taft, but since its the start of the term and we arent being bombarded with homework (JUST YET) that date was an exception.
Got a new 50mm lens for my D90, so we decided to take it out for a test run. Its so portable and light, i wont have lug my 105mm lens around anymore. Expect more pictures!
